Get Ready to Pay 99 Cents to Watch YouTube

YouTube is increasing its efforts to generate more revenue with its most popular videos producers. Thousands of YouTube creators will now be able to launch paid channels, which charge a monthly subscription fee of $0.99 or more.
The paid channel initiative began in May as a pilot program with a few dozen accounts, including popular brands like Sesame Street and the Professional Golf Association. Now any video creator who has 10,000 subscribers and has been verified by YouTube will be able to set up a new paid channel and charge a fee for access to their content. Creators can set their own subscription rates, though YouTube has final authority to determine pricing. Every paid channel will offer an initial 14-day free trial.

A YouTube spokesman confirmed that the revenue split between YouTube and creators for subscription channels is similar to the model used for advertising revenue, with creators keeping the majority of the money. YouTube does not disclose the exact percentage of this advertising split, but it has been widely reported to be 55 percent for creators and 45 percent for YouTube.
The Google-owned video platform has invested heavily to improve the quality of its content as it tries to lure advertisers away from television. The company has spent at least $300 million in the production and marketing of a slate of 100 original channels in the last two years. YouTube also has production studios for creators to use in Los Angeles,  London and Tokyo. A fourth will open in New York in 2014.
YouTube declined to disclose the number of subscribers for any of the existing paid channels, but over the summer some channel operators said user response had been tepid, according to variety. A YouTube spokesman said these are still very early days for the initiative.
The original version of this story said YouTube creators with 10,000 subscribers could “convert” their channels to paid channels. In fact, these users must create new channels to charge a subscription.

Does Even More, Weighs Even More Less - iPad Air

Apple just announced iPad Air, the fifth in its line of (nearly) 10-inch tablets. Last year, Apple's big-boy got a perfunctory upgrade, but this year the iPad's getting a new super skinny design—and a new name—with batch of significant improvements that'll carry it through the next year.

The rumors about an iPad redesign were true, but it's even slicker than we thought. The iPad Air features the first really significant update to the tablet's hardware since the iPad 3, which added a retina display and an increase in heft due to a hulking battery.
At 7.5mm thick, the iPad Air is 20 percent thinner than its 9.5mm predecessor, with a flat-backed design resembling the iPad mini. Very handsome. It's also way lighter, just one pound, compared to 1.44 pounds before. Apple says it's the lightest full-size tablet in the world. That should help it stand out from the pack. Early accounts suggest the new tablet is a delight.
 GUTS
Inside, the iPad Air runs the burly new A7 system chip the powers the iPhone 5s. According to Apple, the new chip doubles the iPad Air's graphics and computational performance compared to the 4th gen model. Compared to the original, that's eight times faster CPU performance and 72 times faster graphics.
The new chip, as we noted before, introduces support for 64-bit architecture. Basically, Apple's future proofing its ecosystem for devices with more than 4GB of RAM. Additionally, the CPU features an underlying improvement in architecture (ARMv8 from ARMv7, if you must know), which should greatly improve battery life.

The A7's new M7 Motion Coprocessor, which manages inputs from the iPads built-in sensors. Although, we're less sure what we'd use this extra power for given that you're less likely to go for a run with iPad in tow.
And last but not least, the iPad Air has Wi-Fi with MIMO that's two times faster than before and dual built-in microphones that'll help improve the audio quality.

Camera

The iPad camera has always lagged behind the camera on the iPhone, and it won't catch up with the iPad Air—not in resolution at least; it's still just 5 megapixels. The 1.2 megapixel 720p FaceTime camera has been upgraded to a camera that can shoot in FullHD 1920 x 1080 resolution, though.

Battery Life

As we noted before, the iPad 3 was big 'un because it needed a big battery to power that beautiful retina display. Now that the iPad is a a skinny slate, the concern would be that battery life might suffer if Apple used a smaller battery. According to Phil Schiller the iPad Air will get 10 hours, just like before. Impressive.

Okonjo is a dictator - ASUU

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has branded Minister of Finance, Okonjo-Iweala ‘a dictator’ for her insistence that Federal Government would not release an extra kobo to fund education.
Members of the union who staged a peaceful protest at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) on Friday, chanted songs and displayed placards condemning the posture of the Minister.
Some of the placards carried by the lecturers read “Okonjo-Iweala, take it or leave it is a dictator’s stance on labour industrial negotiation”, “Responsible government respects agreement” and “No nation can develop without genuine commitment to education”.
Speaking with journalists after the protest, Acting Chairman of ASUU ESUT chapter, Uche Omeje, said they were protesting because the federal government has refused to implement an agreement it freely went into with ASUU in 2009 as well as their memorandum of understanding of 2012.
“They have been dragging their feet and we are not happy. Such statement like ‘take it or leave it’ cannot promote education. No nation can develop by not having a genuine commitment to education, research and education.
“The Minister of Finance made a very clear statement that take it or leave it, federal government is not going to release extra ten kobo to fund education. We are saying that to make such a statement is clearly the mindset of Brettonwoods institution or Washington consensus. It is the mindset of a dictator” Omeje said.
He noted that if any nation must develop, it must show commitment to education, adding that it is not an issue of ‘take it or leave it’.
Omeje regretted that Nigeria occupies the bottom rock of nations that spent so less in education, stressing that the percentage of GDP federal government spends on education is so low when compared to other nations.

Minister of Aviation asked to resgin in 72hrs.

The heat is on. Nigeria’s most visible anti-corruption watchdog led by a former legislator, Hon. Dino Melaye, has given Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah 72 hours to resign from office.
The ultimatum follows revelations that she arm-twisted a cash-strapped agency, the NCAA, to purchase two armored BMW 760 Li cars for her at highly inflated prices.
Naijalatestnews.Com gathered from a top source in Abuja that even President Goodluck Jonathan is shocked at Stella Oduah’s spending of N255m for just two cars but he can’t do anything due to some reasons.
Anyway, Dino Melaye said his group will embark on series of actions to force President Jonathan to fire the Mrs. Oduah as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as order her to return the $1.6 million to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, which was forced to buy the cars.
Dino Melaye said the purchase of the vehicles was done in violation of the various rules and law guiding such high-level procurement by government officials, particularly the monetiazation policy of federal government.
First, Dino Melaye said he is heading to court next Tuesday to force the EFCC to prosecute the Minister.
On the cost of the vehicles, Melaye described them as “unconscionable,” recalling that the Speaker of House of Reps also purchased two Armored Mercedes Benz S-600 B7 grade armored cars a year ago for less than $800,000.
He also disclosed that he had requested for quotations from Germany that show that the vehicles actually cost less than $200,000 each. Even then, he stressed, the Minister has no right to purchase the vehicles for her personal use in the first place.
Stella Oduah is the co-chair of President Jonathan’s main presidential campaign team, Neighbor-2-Neighbor hence she may not be sacked since Jonathan is known to romance corrupt people openly.

Must Read Lovev Story - What goes around come around.

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.
Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe; he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you. He said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.”
Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.
As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn’t thank him enough for coming to her aid.
Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him.
This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.
He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, “And think of me.”
He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.
A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps.
The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn’t erase.
The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan.
After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin.
There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote:
“You don’t owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you.”
Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written.
How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard….
She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything’s going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson.”
There is an old saying “What goes around comes around.”

Market women protest ASUU strtike.

“We all know what they do with our year-one daughters in the university. We equally know that they sell handouts and handbooks.
“Is this not worse than corruption of the highest order?”
On FG/ASUU agreement
Asked why she did not criticise the Federal Government for failing to reach an agreement with ASUU, Mrs Sani said: “Which agreement? How do you expect lecturers in state universities to earn same salaries as Federal ones? That is impossible.
“We are not educated, but you do not expect a hotel in my village to cost same price as a hotel in Abuja.
“They are located in different places. So how can a state university lecturer earn same salary with his federal counterpart?
“We are begging them for the last time. If we come out again we may have to chase them out of this country and replace them with so many jobless Nigerians.”

‘FG to complete rehabilitation of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2 weeks’

The Federal Government has promised to complete, within two weeks, the ongoing rehabilitation of sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that usually cause traffic gridlocks.
Commuters plying the road usually complain of wasting valuable man-hours trying to get through some sections of the road washed out by the rains.
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Olutoyin Obikoya, stated that the Federal Ministry of Works had mobilized Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) to carry out urgent rehabilitation works on the bad sections within two weeks.
Obikoya, who is the engineers’ representative on the reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (section I), appealed to people using the road to be patient, explaining that the work would be done to ensure the road remained in good condition for a long time.
Movement on the road, he said, was being slowed by the construction of an additional lane on the Ibadan-bound stretch and the mounting of concrete median at some points.
He further said  that “the ministry has been carrying out palliative works on the road and it is this construction work that is causing the slow traffic. They are working on the road and once it is done, movement will be better.”
The construction company, he disclosed, would not work during the holidays, adding that after the holidays, work would be intensified to ensure it is completed within two weeks.
He said it is the Lagos-bound lane that has more bad portions, stating that the pace of work had been slowed by the rains that washed off the chippings put on the road by the construction company.
“We want to finish the work up to the stage of putting binder and, hopefully, this will not be washed off by rain. It only means it will be more expensive. The slow traffic will ease off in two weeks,”Obikoya said.

New Music: Eminem Rap God

You Guys should tell me what you think about it.

Eminem Is No 'Rap God'

Eminem has six minutes of rap that he wants to share with you. The lengthy third song from his eighth album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is now on iTunes, and "Rap God" arrives at a time when the Detroit MC is hardly alone in equating his approach to his art as downright deity-like. There's that whole Yeezus album you may have heard something about, of course. But while Kanye West makes the point that he's bigger than any single medium — he's a god god — Mr. Mathers seems to know where his own legacy lies: he's great at rapping, and not necessarily much else.
That's fine, because no one is asking him to start an art collective or bring left-field electronica into the limelight. Those who are still asking Em for anything should be pleased enough with this latest offering. Like "Berzerk" and "Survival" before it, "Rap God" features the dude aggressively rhyming his ass off, melding modern cadences with vintage battle styles, and never-gets-old fast-rap. That's all fine and well, but amidst all of that shock-and-awe, the content is occasionally cringe-worthy. Suggesting that his competition needs maxi-pads is awfully ridiculous-sounding in 2013, as are Ray J references (no one cares), and the line, "How could I not blow? All I drop is F-bombs."
So he raps about inducting Run-D.M.C. into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, identifying himself as an elder statesman (perhaps worth holy anointment) but then weirdly openly admits to not being as popular as he used to be. When Kanye roars "I am a god," the listener knows better than to argue. When Eminem opens this song, it's with a gussied-up whimper: "I'm beginning to feel like a rap god."
Really, dude? Weren't you already there in, like, 1999? As we learned last week, au courant flourishes on the retro-looking MMLP2 are coming via Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, fun.'s Nate Ruess, and Skylar Grey. The album's cover (and title) harks back to 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP, with a foreclosed-upon twist.

“I Still Want To Marry Genevieve Nnaji” – D’banj

Nigerian pop star, Dapo Oyebanji, (D’banj), has not given up hope of getting married to Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji. The ‘Entertainer’ crooner seems to still be in love with Genevieve and if he has his way, he will make her his wife.
The two of them were reported to be in a very serious relationship some years back when he featured the ‘Face of Range Rover’ model in his song, ‘Fall in Love’, where they exchanged real life kisses. But the relationship packed up like a badly arranged cards.
But now, D’banj believes he still has what it takes to marry her if she will give him the chance. This is what he said in a recent interview: “Apart from the fact that she (Genevieve Nnaji) is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve’s name will not come up, because she featured in my biggest song of all time, ‘Fall in Love’.
I would love to have Genevieve as my wife. We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realize that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife finds a good thing.”
So sweet, and well said, D’banj. We wish you luck in your quest.

Amanda Bynes for next need for speed.

In March 2012, Bynes was stopped and ticketed by police for talking on a cell phone while driving. A month later, she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after side-swiping a police car in West Hollywood. On September 4, 2012, Bynes was charged for two alleged hit and run incidents, one occurring in April and the other in August. The hit and run charges were dismissed in December 2012 following a financial settlement between Bynes and the victims.
Bynes' driver's license was suspended on September 6, 2012, by the California Departments of Motor Vehicles. On September 16, Bynes was cited for driving with a suspended license, and her car was impounded. In May 2013, Bynes pleaded no contest to the charge, and was sentenced to three years probation. As of July 2013 the charge for driving under the influence was still pending.
On May 23, 2013, Bynes was arrested at her home in Manhattan for criminal possession of marijuana, attempted tampering with evidence, and  According to a prosecutor at Bynes' arraignment, police observed Bynes throwing a bong from the window of her 36th-floor apartment. Bynes claimed that the alleged bong was actually a Vase.Following her arrest, Bynes underwent a psychiatric evaluation at a hospital before she was processed at the police station. On May 25, Bynes said on Twitter that she had been sexually harassed by the arresting officer: "[He] slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal." The police department has denied the accusation.
On July 22, 2013, Ventura County sheriff's deputies detained Bynes in front of a stranger's house in Thousand Oaks California, where she had allegedly starting a small fire in the driveway, and had her hospitalized under a 72-hour 5150 mental evaluation hold. Bynes' parents filed for conservatorship of their daughter shortly after her hospitalization began. On August 9, Bynes' mother was granted a temporary conservatorship over Bynes' affairs, including her medical care, as well as control over her finances, after the judge agreed that Bynes had a "lack of capacity to give informed consent to medical care."On September 24, Bynes' lawyer asked for a "1368 Penal Code" hearing to determine Bynes' mental competency. The court scheduled a January 14, 2014, hearing for a progress report.Six days later, Bynes' parents said that upon doctors' recommendation, Bynes was transferred from UCLA Medical Center to receive "specialized treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles."

Sinead O’Connor"s bang from Miley Cyrus

This is becoming a fully-fledged transatlantic feud! Miley Cyrus has issued a witty retort to Sinead O’Connor's second open letter of caution.
In her latest tweets, the “Wrecking Ball” singer snarks, "Sinead. I don't have time to write you an open letter cause I’m hosting & performing on SNL this week. So if you'd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter. :)"
After O’Connor posed her first open letter, warning Cyrus against being ‘prostituted’ by her record industry advisers, Miley responded with a nasty message- “Before Amanda Bynes… There was…” along with a reference to O’Connor’s tweets seeking mental health care.
Sinead shot back, "Miley…Really? Who the f-ck is advising you? Because taking me on is even more f-ckin' stupid than behaving like a prostitute and calling it feminism. You mock myself and Amanda Bynes for having suffered with mental health issues and for having sought help."

Eating for Two at RivaBella

Feeding her craving for Italian food, pregnant Halle Berry stopped at RivaBella in West Hollywood on Friday (October 4).
The "Cloud Atlas" star covered her huge baby bump in a lacy black sleeveless top with a black maxi skirt and flip-flops as she headed outside after getting her grub on.
Though she's known for her big screen roles, the 49-year-old actress has just been signed to join Steven Spielberg in his CBS summer drama, "Extant."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is described as a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space.
