The 15 facts you never knew about Arsenal Football Club

1 – Its terrifying history

Before the continents broke apart, North London was home to the original Native Americans. Emirates Stadium is now built on top of an ancient Indian burial ground. One day, a club employee brought his daughter to the stadium and set her down to watch TV, only to be horrified when a portal opened up in a stationary closet and sucked her inside.

2 – How it was founded by a secret society

The Dial Square brigade, as they were known, founded the football club in 1886 not simply to play football, but to celebrate the 1886th victim of their Satanic cult. The leader, a sinister man named Dean Davids, was a suspect for the Jack the Ripper murders.

3 – It’s not the only Arsenal

Gunners fans may think their club is unique but there are other Arsenals. There’s Arsenal de Sarandí (Argentina), FC Arsenal Kyiv (Ukraine), Bonzer Arsenal (Australia), McArsenal Thistles (Scotland), L’Arsenal (French Guyana) and Bloody Arse Arsenal (London Hospital of Proctology).

4 – A pioneering kit

Pioneering manager Herbert Chapman not only designed the eye-catching Gunners home kit of red shirts with white sleeves but also teamed up with Italian company Indesit to invent a new type of mechanical washing machine which prevented the two colours running. The joint venture formed the bedrock of a commercial relationship which continues to this day.

5 – Arsenal’s travel ban

Former chairman Peter Hill-Wood banned Arsenal from ever touring the Philippines due to the country’s involvement in George Graham’s bung scandal of the early nineties. The Scot was dismissed for accepting Manila envelopes containing thousands of pounds from the agent of Norwegian star Pal Lydersen. Sir Chips has since Phillip-flopped on the decision.

6 – Wembley pants party

Pictures of Charlie George’s famous 1971 FA Cup final goal celebration were heavily censored by newspapers at the time because the player’s horizontal pose highlighted a thumping great erection inside his tight blue shorts. Under duress from manager Bertie Mee, the striker apologised for his behaviour by donating his win bonus to Pele’s erectile dysfunction charity.

7 – How they almost didn’t sign Thierry Henry

The Frenchman is the club’s all time leading scorer but despite having a hard time at Juventus, Arsene Wenger almost missed out on his signing. He’d been in discussions with other European clubs when the pair met by chance at a Huey Lewis and the News concert. Now that’s what we call the Power of Love!

8 – The underhand tactics

When Arsenal were more green that red in the 1970s due to the proliferation of players from the Emerald Isle, the likes of David O’Leary and Liam Brady would carry that traditional Irish trick before games: releasing a box of furious otters into the opposition dressing room. It worked well enough to get then to three FA Cup finals in a row, although lack of available otters in 1978 and 1980 led to Wembley disappointment.

9 – Why Le French revolution nearly never happened

When Bruce Rioch’s time at the club was coming to an end, Arsene Wenger was under contract at Nagoya Grampus 8 and the Japanese side were unhappy about him leaving. In order to facilitate the move, Arsenal officials promised to provide a kidney for one of Grampus’s directors but couldn’t find a match. In the end they had to dissect 15 orphans to find one that would work!

10 – The Bank of England connection

Arsenal were known as the Bank of England club because of their wealth but also their austere nature. The reality is that the club’s owner, Sir Henry Norris, ran a massive counterfeit operation from under the east stand at Highbury, churning out thousands of 5 shilling notes every day.

11 – Sock it to him

Cristiano Ronaldo came very close to signing for Arsenal but saw his move to Highbury break down over a disagreement with Thierry Henry about sock length. The Frenchman’s contract dictated that he alone should be allowed to sport socks like seductive over-the-knee stockings, a look which the Portuguese also coveted. Vic Akers delivered the deciding vote in a tense boardroom meeting, siding with the Gallic hitman. Ronaldo subsequently signed with United where he was allowed to wear a french knickers instead of shorts.

12 – Friar tucks in

Ken Friar drinks the blood of a sacrificed cockerel at the end of every league season as thanks for Tottenham’s league title trophy drought. Soon after the ritual, which he’s been undertaking since 1962 and also includes puncturing a basketball, the lifelong club servant heads to the Wetherspoons on Highbury corner where he drinks a tray of Aftershocks to rid himself of the taste.

13 – Terry’s big cock up

Manager Terry Neill, believing Clive Allen to be the son of hilarious comic Dave and therefore a fine addition to the Arsenal ranks, was so nauseated by the presence of the former QPR man that he immediately sold him to Crystal Palace, taking left back Kenny Sansom to Highbury in the process. Allen’s insistence on daily handshakes were, to Neill, the sign of a deeply insecure man, while club captain Pat Rice led a player revolt due to Allen’s intensely cloying musk.

14 – The Big Mac

Ex-Gunners striker Malcolm MacDonald successfully sued American fast-food outlet McDonald’s for a six-figure sum in 1979 when they introduced a ‘Super Mac’ to their menu. The sandwich, which included six patties, mild cheddar and a deep fried bun, was withdrawn from service after just one week when judges at the Old Bailey ruled the player’s nickname had indeed been the subject of copyright infringement.

15 – The move to North London

It’s a fact that still enrages fans of Tottenham Hotspurs, a small amateur outfit from Middlesex, but the Arsenal moved North of the river in order to get away from a group of young ladies who, much against the way of the world back then, had relentlessly stalked some of the players in an overtly sexual manner. Ace winger, Cliff Winstanley, was so aghast when flashed with provocative bloomers he had to be put in a mental institution and died a lunatic just three years later. The licentious ways south of the Thames were too much for the gentlemanly Gunners.

BREAKING NEWS: Search Ship Of Missing Malaysian Plane ‘Picks Up Signal’

A Chinese vessel that is part of a multinational search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane in the southern Indian Ocean reported on Saturday that an underwater sensor had picked up a “pulse signal,” China’s official news agency reported.
The signal had a frequency of 37.5 kHz, the report said, which is the frequency used for all standard underwater locator devices attached to aircraft data and voice recorders, commonly known as black boxes.
Hours after the report, the Australian chief coordinator of the Indian Ocean search, retired Air Chief Marshall Angus Houston, said “the characteristics reported are consistent with the aircraft black box.” He also noted that white objects had been spotted floating in the water about 56 miles from the area where the sounds were heard.
But he urged caution, saying the reports could not be immediately verified -- a sentiment echoed by Malaysian and Chinese officials.
“There is no confirmation at this stage that the signals and the objects are related to the missing aircraft,” said Mr. Houston, chief of the Joint Agency Coordination Center, an Australian government group.
False alerts can be triggered by sea life, including whales, or by noise from ships. An alert sounded on the British Royal Navy vessel HMS Echo last week turned out to be false, according to the Australians.
The Chinese vessel, Haixun 01, was searching about 1,020 miles northwest of Perth, Australia, on Saturday when it picked up the pulse signal, Xinhua reported.
In the four weeks since Flight 370 veered off its scheduled path from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and dropped off civilian and military radar, no trace of the plane has been found. In the past week, searchers have concentrated their efforts in several areas of the Indian Ocean more than 900 miles off the coast of Perth, Australia. A flotilla of ships from various nations have combed the water as aircraft have conducted daily reconnaissance flights.
Crews aboard the planes and ships have spotted floating items nearly every day, but so far all the objects have turned out to be fishing equipment and other detritus not related to Flight 370.

On Saturday, 10 military planes, 3 civilian jets and 11 ships were scheduled to search an area about 1,050 miles northwest of Perth, and the signal reported by the Chinese ship appeared to come from that area, according to coordinates provided by Xinhua.
The Haixun 01 has been a regular member of the search flotilla for days and is one of at least eight vessels China has deployed to the Indian Ocean to help in the search.
On Friday, search coordinators announced that the underwater phase of the hunt had begun with the addition of two military ships — one from Australia and the other from Britain — equipped with underwater sensor technology.
Both those ships planned to resume their underwater search on Saturday, the Australian Coordination Center said in a statement early in the day. There was no mention, however, of the Haixun 01’s part in the underwater search or whether it was outfitted with technology for detecting black boxes.
The Haixun 01 went into service last year, when the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration said it was the biggest of China’s civilian maritime administration vessels with the most advanced equipment.
Black boxes are equipped to emit a signal that can be detected by a receiver under the surface of the water. The maximum detection range is typically up to about two to three kilometers, or less than two miles, though the range is dependent on various factors including the sensitivity of the receiver, sea conditions, water temperature or whether the black boxes are buried by debris.
Much hope is riding on the effectiveness of the underwater listening devices. The black boxes’ batteries, which have a life span of about a month, are expected to expire as early as this week. When they die, so will the pinger signal, leaving the boxes to rest mutely on the seabed, making their discovery far more difficult.

Kidnappers Demand 30million Naira for the realease of President Jonathan's Uncle

Nitabai Inengite The abductors of President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle and foster father, Nitabai Inengite, have rejected an offer of N30 million made by the victim's family. Mr. Inengite has been in his abductor's custody for 12 days.
A family source told SaharaReporters that their family had sent word to President Jonathan about their inability to raise the ransom demanded by the abductors.
Mr. Jonathan is currently in his home town, Otuoke. There are indications that he may facilitate the release of funds to pay the kidnappers. Our source said the kidnappers have asked for N500 million.
Mr. Inengite was abducted 12 days ago from his Otuoke residence.
Two security sources confirmed that the kidnappers had established contact with
the family and demanded a ransom of N500 million to free the victim. One source disclosed that the kidnappers were offered N30 million by the family.
The kidnappers were reportedly irked by the offer which they reportedly described as paltry for the foster father of the president.
The heavy presence of armed securitymen deployed to secure the release of Mr. Inengite has so far yielded no breakthrough.
Numerous kidnap incidents in Bayelsa State remain unsolved, heightening the state of insecurity in the president's home state. A law in the state  state prescribes the death sentence for kidnapping. The law has largely failed  to deter criminals who rake in fortunes by kidnapping relatives of notable politicians, political appointees, oil industry employees and hapless citizens.

Crushee Is A New Social Network For Best Friends That Haven't Met Yet

Years ago I worked at a major tech publication right about the time things like Facebook and Myspace were becoming popular. Consequently my colleagues and I received emails nearly daily that all shared one phrase that we all rued. We hated – and still hate – the term, “not just another social network”, because every time another social network was launched the phrase used it to try to explicate just how “special” it was. The words cut us. There was a “not just another social network” dedicated to Toyota Prius owners; one for yo-yo enthusiasts; and even one for those who collect World War I era dummy firearms. Few social networks, then, made us take note, and fewer still do today. Those scars run deep.
But then I made friends with a charming social network called Crushee. It was awhile ago and it was in a closed private beta. I was asked to take a look and share my opinions with the small cabal in charge of the site. It was cute, but obviously still growing. The most important thing, however, was that it operated in a totally different way than the big social networks, like Facebook.
Crushee isn’t about keeping in touch with the awesome people in your life; Crushee is about meeting and gathering new awesome people into your life. Going in, I had only one or two people I’d be able to say I “knew” on Crushee. Now I’m best friends with everyone there.
It may sound like hyperbole, but it’s not. I’m helping one member I met on there book her first rock show in Seattle when she tours this summer. I’m putting up another for a couple days while they road trip through the West coast. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve helped with their websites or other tech projects just because they’re fellow “Crushees”.
These aren’t people I know in real life, these are people I met and befriend and fell in love with on a website. And the love, let me tell you, is real, man.
It helps that, for the most part, the Crushee’s membership are indeed a hip set. Musicians, alternative models, artists, and designers are the norm. The people tend to be young and attractive, dress exceptionally stylishly, and there are more than enough tattoos to go around. And, amazingly, the creep factor is low. (The site is designed that way, more on how that’s achieved below.)
It’s also generated its own customs and traditions that seem to have appeared via the collective will of the participants. On any given day you can see the merits of different types of pizza being debated via animated gifs of cats. Again, that’s not hyperbole, that’s just how it works.
Crushee was founded by Annaliese Nielsen, whose previous web successful major web venture is (the decidedly not safe for work) GodsGirls, a website for independent and alt glamor models, many of whom call Crushee a second home.
I talked with Nielsen about her vision for Crushee, how it came to be, and why it’s so special.
So who’s behind Crushee?
There are currently zero people on staff. This is a completely bootstrapped start up. We are self-funded and working on this thing on our nights and weekends. We’re a team of three founders: Atom Smith, Brent Akamine and myself. We did give a little equity to a friend to help us navigate our legals and financials with a little more literacy, but otherwise it’s just us.
Is Crushee a dating site?
Crushee isn’t a dating site. Brent and I met in 2009. I think and we talked about building a niche dating product at the time. We prototyped it with some capital that a friend kicked in. It was basically like Tinder [an alt dating app], but on the web. It had a feed that was a very basic shoutbox [similar to “Facebook’s “wall”] sort of utility. The idea was that people could use this shoutbox to make a post to grab a user’s attention and get some extra eyeballs on their profile.
During that prototype, we let some people onto the site to test it out. They were all using the shout box to talk to each other. Everyone used the “crush” utility very freely regardless of any actual potential romantic interest in each other. it became obvious pretty quickly that we would need to move in another direction if we wanted to address a real need as opposed to this need that we had hypothesized the existence of.
We found out that people just wanted to talk to each other regardless of whether they knew each other. And then people were making friends. It was neat!

Facebook buys WhatsApp for $19 billion

In a play to dominate messaging on phones and the Web, Facebook has acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion.

That's a stunning sum for the five-year old company. But WhatsApp has been able to hold its weight against messaging heavyweights like Twitter (TWTR), Google (GOOG,Fortune 500) and Microsoft's (MSFT, Fortune 500) Skype. WhatsApp has upwards of 450 million users, and it is adding an additional million users every day.
Referring to WhatsApp's soaring growth, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on a conference call, "No one in the history of the world has done anything like that."
WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app for smartphones, according to OnDevice Research.
Buying WhatsApp will only bolster Facebook's already strong position in the crowded messaging world. Messenger, Facebook's a standalone messaging app for mobile devices, is second only to WhatsApp in its share of the smartphone market.
Similar to traditional text messaging, WhatsApp allows people to connect via their cellphone numbers. But instead of racking up texting fees, WhatsApp sends the actual messages over mobile broadband. That makes WhatsApp particularly cost effective for communicating with people overseas.
That kind of mobile messaging services have become wildly popular, with twice as many messages sent over the mobile Internet than via traditional texts, according to Deloitte. But most of the messaging industry's revenue is still driven by text messaging.
On the conference call, Facebook said it is not looking to drive revenue from WhatsApp in the near term, instead focusing on growth. Zuckerberg said he doesn't anticipate trying to aggressively grow WhatsApp's revenue until the service reaches "billions" of users.
WhatsApp currently charges a dollar a year after giving customers their first year of use for free. WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum said on the conference call that WhatsApp's business model is already successful.
That indicates Facebook bought WhatsApp to add value to its existing messaging services, as well as for the long-term potential of the company.
Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 for similar reasons: As young social network users gravitated towards photo-sharing, Facebook wanted to scoop up what could have eventually become a big rival.
Like Instagram, WhatsApp will function as an autonomous unit within Facebook, with all the existing employees coming in as part of the deal.
Facebook (FB, Fortune 500) said it will pay WhatsApp $4 billion in cash and $12 billion in stock. WhatsApp's founders and staff will be eligible for for another $3 billion in stock grants to be paid out if they remain employed by Facebook for four years. Koum will also join Facebook's board of directors

Twitter To Be Bought By Facebook And Google For $10 Billion?

Google Inc and Facebook Inc, plus others, have held low level takeover talks with Twitter that give the Internet sensation a value as high as $10 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported.
In December, Twitter raised $200 million in financing in a deal that valued it at $3.7 billion. The company, which allows users to broadcast 140-character messages to groups of followers, had 175 million users as of September.
The Wall Street Journal reported on its website that executives at Twitter have held "low level" talks with executives at Facebook and Google in recent months about a possible takeover of Twitter.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the WSJ said other companies have also held similar talks.
"But what's remarkable is the money that people familiar with the matter say frames the discussions with at least some potential suitors; an estimated valuation in the neighborhood of $8 billion to $10 billion," the report said.
The paper said the talks have so far gone nowhere and that Google, Facebook and Twitter all declined to comment.
Despite the valuation, the report said Twitter's executives and board were working on building a large, independent company.
"People familiar with the situation said the company believes it can grow into a $100 billion company," the WSJ said.
Twitter, created in 2006, is among a crop of popular Internet social networking services that includes Facebook, Zynga and LinkedIn.
A growing secondary market has developed in shares of the privately held Web sensations and investors are monitoring the companies closely in the hope they might float shares.
It was only in the middle of 2010 that Twitter offered marketers a way to advertise on the service.
Industry research firm eMarketer said last month that Twitter, which doesn't disclose financial information, generated an estimated $45 million from advertising in 2010 and is expected to generate some $150 million this year.
Google, the world's number 1 Internet search engine, generated roughly $29 billion in revenue in 2010 and Facebook, recently valued at $50 billion, produced about $1.9 billion, eMarketer said.
Which of this company will it favour more and why.

Dont ever tag my daughters' pic sexy and hot - Omotola Jalade

One of Nollywood’s best, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has taken out time to rebuke and warn bloggers who tagged her 14-year-old daughter Meraiah as ‘sexy and hot’ after the minor posted pictures online as she marked her 14th birthday recently.
Omotola, who rang the warning on her Facebook page, did not hesitate to suggest that any such comments in future over her kids would come with some penalty.
See her post below:
Thank you to everyone who wished Meraiah a happy birthday. However, going to a 14-year-old’s ‘private’ online accts to post her pictures for public viewing is totally inappropriate. Her father and I are horrified as parents and guardian that a minor’s picture can be paraded online as ‘hot,’ ‘sexy…’
We know the bloggers probably meant no harm but in a world full of pedophiles and sickos, every adult with morales should know where to draw the line. This was started by a lady called Kemi Filani, she has since apologized and taken down content but her reckless blog post lives on.
I WILL NOT hesitate henceforth to use everything within my power to bring ANYONE to justice who does this with any of my under aged kids after ‘this’ first time episode!
Any child under 18 should be protected by us all and if their parents/guardian haven’t given you the okay to publish information especially ‘private’ of their child, doing so, is against the law.
I hope you all understand thanks. Omotola.

Get Ready to Pay 99 Cents to Watch YouTube

YouTube is increasing its efforts to generate more revenue with its most popular videos producers. Thousands of YouTube creators will now be able to launch paid channels, which charge a monthly subscription fee of $0.99 or more.
The paid channel initiative began in May as a pilot program with a few dozen accounts, including popular brands like Sesame Street and the Professional Golf Association. Now any video creator who has 10,000 subscribers and has been verified by YouTube will be able to set up a new paid channel and charge a fee for access to their content. Creators can set their own subscription rates, though YouTube has final authority to determine pricing. Every paid channel will offer an initial 14-day free trial.

A YouTube spokesman confirmed that the revenue split between YouTube and creators for subscription channels is similar to the model used for advertising revenue, with creators keeping the majority of the money. YouTube does not disclose the exact percentage of this advertising split, but it has been widely reported to be 55 percent for creators and 45 percent for YouTube.
The Google-owned video platform has invested heavily to improve the quality of its content as it tries to lure advertisers away from television. The company has spent at least $300 million in the production and marketing of a slate of 100 original channels in the last two years. YouTube also has production studios for creators to use in Los Angeles,  London and Tokyo. A fourth will open in New York in 2014.
YouTube declined to disclose the number of subscribers for any of the existing paid channels, but over the summer some channel operators said user response had been tepid, according to variety. A YouTube spokesman said these are still very early days for the initiative.
The original version of this story said YouTube creators with 10,000 subscribers could “convert” their channels to paid channels. In fact, these users must create new channels to charge a subscription.
